Project Mangrove

Residential Project in Pulau Ubin Project Mangrove :D

ok this update is for the residential project trip i made to ubin called Project Mangrove during the semester break near the end of it. It was a fun experience where i worked together with 21 other wonderful participants as well as 2 SAA staffs (Hwee Hoon and Wee How).
There were meetings held juz 2 weeks before the actual trip to plan for the trip's details which was pretty short. However, the whole group still managed to pull off a great feat despite the time constraint. There were many things to plan for such as our meals, allocation of roles to everyone, what stuffs to buy by logistics and etc.

During Day 1, we set off to Pulau Ubin after having lunch at Changi Jetty. Upon reaching Ubin, we headed off to the resort to unload our bags/ luggages. Directly after that, it is work time :) We headed off to one of the mangrove swamps in Ubin and began our first work at nature conservation. We had lots of fun carefully uprooting the mangrove plants without killing them for replantation by the National Environment Agency. It was tiring and wet/muddy but we had plenty of fun and laughters.

On the bumboat to Ubin :D

Our arrival at ubin on day 1 :D

At the mangrove swamp :D

Our sauce for pasta dinner :D:D:D prepared with effort from the food ppl.
Finally a debrief for the day before its time to fill in our NYAA booklet and sleep time :D

Now for day 2, we had morning exercise (Yoga) led by Joshua before breakfast of bread with nutella spread or kaya spread :D quite tasty and once again, its thanks to our food group members :P After the filling breakfast, it is time to set off to work. The first task of the day was the uprooting of weeds and after that, it was beach cleaning! :D It was tiring doing the weed clearing job but it was definitely worthwhile and the never ending beach waste definitely needs some environmental protection from the litter bugs :/

Our Yoga master, Joshua :D

Morning exercise by everyone hehe.

Dig Dig Dig :D

Lunch time
Bags of garbage from the clearing of the beach. They sure are plenty!!!

A nice view of the quarry from a high point after a day's work :D

Now for day 3, it is a relaxing day as we are going back to the city once again :D We had breakfast just like day 2 before we set off for an educational trip by our friendly NEA staff who showed us some plants grown in Ubin. After that, it is time to get back to Changi jetty for lunch before we head back to TP for the final debrief and it is home sweet home time :D

A walk amidst the greens and some unseen plants in the city

Lunch at Subway :DFinally its back to TP and the final briefings :)

In overall, the 3 days on Ubin was meaningful and I am proud to say I had contributed to the environment although it is minor but with every tiny bit of effort made, we can make a large difference to the environment :)
