Overseas Leadership Expedition

Dear NYAA Participants,


As mentioned before, the forest trekking trip @ Endau Rompin National Park, Northern Johor in the early April has been confirmed. This will allow you to fulfil your Adventurous Journey component if you have not done so. On the previous briefing, a lot of the NYAA Participants and other interested parties have signed up for this event. Therefore, the vacancies that we are left with is only around 20. I urge you to submit your form asap as the application may end early if the response is too overwhelming. The closing date will be on 26th Feb.

Reading Programme

Dear Participants,

As we have advertised a few weeks ago, one of the TP staff volunteers at Tampines CC. They are on the lookout of people to read storybooks to children. Consider this project and see if you are interested and use it for the service component. Your commitment can separate and shorten like from Feb to Apr, May to Jul or Aug to Oct, instead of Feb to Oct.

Information on Trekking & OCP

OCP:
  • Lombok (Near to Bali), at a place call Sapit
  • Muslim Country
  • 3 hrs, direct flight by Silkair
  • Yayasan Peduli Anak (Children Care Foundation); Non- profit organisation, provide shelter for street children between age of 3- 17 years and house 60- 80 of them.
  • We will stay in school compound which is clean & safe
  • Tasks; Printing of Murals, Lesson (teach english through songs & games, computer), Recreational Activities (Music, swimming, soccer, camp craft), Daily chores (Cooking & marketing)
  • Allow visitors to interact & good exposure for the children
  • Reforestation programme (WWF), we will plant trees
  • 1 day trekking, to a view that can see Volcano
  • Insurance will be included in the fees.

Trekking:
  • Endau- Rompin National Park, Johor
  • 30 Mar- 3 Apr (Will stay in TP for 1 night, and catch morning train to M'sia)
  • Open to all TP Students
  • Will have to attend pre- expedition
  • Estimated cost of $100 excludes own shopping cost
  • Have to be physical able

4D3N Forest Trekking

Dear NYAA Participants,

For your information, we may be organising a 4D3N Forest Trekking @ Endau-Rompin National Park, Northern JohorIn early April, after OCP-Project Lombok, estimated cost $100 (Allow you to fulfil your Adventurous Journey component).

For those interested party in the Forest Trekking event, you can know more about the details on this Thurday, 28 Jan, at Des Sch, LT 24 after the Residential Lombok talk. Perhaps you could go to listen to both and then decide which one you would like to join.

This upcoming overseas community project to Lombok, Indonesia, is confirmed to be on 20-27 March.

Dragon Boat postponed to 24 January 2010

Sorry, the dragon boat event is postponed to the following date due to an event being held at Kallang River on 17 January.

Venue: Meeting at Kallang MRT, 10 minutes walk to training venue.

Dear NYAA friends,

As mentioned earlier, there is a free dragon boating program on every Sunday afternoon, sponsored by the Kampong Glam Constituency Sports Club. The purpose of this program is to encourage healthy lifestyle through dragon boating. This program is opened to anybody interested in dragon boating: Boys and girls, recreational or competitive. The best thing is, rental and all training expenses are free! You can use this water sport to fulfill your "physical recreation".

We will be organising a 1-day training for all interested participants. Participants who wish to commit for long term training may carry on at their own time after this training.

Date: 17 January 2010, Sunday
Time: Meeting at 3pm
Venue: Meeting at Kallang MRT, 10 minutes walk to training venue.

Attire:
T-shirt/singlet and shorts
Sandals or slippers

Things to bring:
1) Extra set of clothing
2) Towel
3) Showering toiletries
4) Sunblock lotion

**Please declare any
medical condition and whether you are able to swim.
This event is not organised by Temasek Polytechnic. TP and TP NYAA Challenge will not be responsible for any accident or injury caused or losses of any property during the event.**
